Will My Child Need A Guardian Ad Litem?
In some instances, a Guardian ad Litem is appointed to conduct an investigation into a child’s circumstances. A Guardian ad Litem is an attorney who will interview the parents and other important adults in a child’s life, and will also often visit with the child in both of the parents’ homes. In the end, the Guardian ad litem has the task of making a recommendation to the court regarding what is in the child’s best interest. The court does not have to order the Guardian ad litem’s recommendation but will oftentimes give it substantial weight in making a determination.
